Why the UEP has adopted The Kauffman Process.
The Kauffman Coaching Program is designed to assist high-potential minority entrepreneurs with intensive, one-on-one coaching designed to help that entrepreneur meet the goals he or she has set.
While the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership assists all categories of entrepreneurs and businesses, from micro to large, the focus of the coaching component will be on those small and medium-sized companies that meet specific criteria for direct assistance.
We will try to identify firms that have the highest growth potential and are likely to have the greatest impact in terms of job creation and urban economic development. The coaching process will prepare those firms for expanded financing, procurement opportunities and help them develop business relationships with major corporations.
Urban Entrepreneur Partnership (UEP)
Urban Entrepreneur Partnership (UEP) as part of its Economic Empowerment Agenda, the National Urban League, in cooperation with the White House, United States Small Business Administration, Kauffman Foundation, Business Roundtable, and Department of Commerce Minority Business Development Agency developed an innovative program called the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership. The program is designed to help minority owned businesses grow so they can generate more wealth and jobs in the community.
Through the combined efforts of the Mayor’s office, the Metropolitan Business Collaborative, and other public/private sector partners, Milwaukee was chosen as the sixth city to host a UEP program. The UEP will function as an independent corporate entity and will rent office space from the Milwaukee Urban League.
The Milwaukee UEP will develop successful, empowered minority businesses in our City’s urban communities. In pursuing and accomplishing this mission, the UEP will develop entrepreneurial and managerial talent and grow minority owned businesses that generate sustaining profits. In this work, the UEP will collaborate with and support our community partners in order to increase capacity and further the effectiveness of our organizations.
The UEP has solid relationships with many community partners in the private, public and non-profit sectors. The UEP links the resources of these partners with internal resources to assess the needs of minority entrepreneurs and business opportunities and support development and growth of minority owned businesses in urban communities.
The UEP involvement minimizes the risk of failure and encourages growth by teaching the entrepreneurs to understand all aspects of their businesses. Entrepreneurs and coaches work together to identify areas for performance improvement and ensure that the entrepreneur has a comprehensive understanding of the factors that influence profit and develops their business for long term success.
